Registration for Bike to Work Day -- May 16, 2008 – is now live on the Washington Area Bicyclists’ Association site at http://www.waba.org/events/btwd/md_nih.php! This is the direct link to register with NIH as your pit stop.
Join us here on main campus, at Rockledge or at Executive Blvd for food, fun, prize raffles, free t-shirts, and more! You will be getting more detailed e-mails about what we have planned for this year's event in the weeks to come, so stay tuned.
We (NIH) won the Metropolitan Washington Council of Government's award for the area employer with the highest registered Bike to Work Day participation in 2006 and 2007. We want to defend that title and win for the third year in a row! (For more on our award and 2007 participation levels, see http://nihrecord.od.nih.gov/newsletters/2007/07_13_2007/seen.htm)
If you want food, goodie bags and the chance to enter our prize raffle here at NIH Bike to Work Day, you need to designate NIH as your pit stop. This is the only way we will be able to plan how much food to buy, and how many goodies to have on hand.
We will again this year have mini pit stops at Executive Blvd and Rockledge locations, so if you work at an off-site facility and can't get to main campus, you can still register for the NIH pit stop. Just contact the pit stop captain for the mini-stop you want to visit (John Pugh pughjohn@csr.nih.gov or Jonathan Kirschner jkirschner@niaid.nih.gov for Rockledge and Angela Atwood-Moore atwood@box-a.nih.gov for Executive Blvd), and we will have food, goodies, prizes and your t-shirt at that mini- pit stop waiting for you on May 16.
If you want to attend a non-NIH pit stop, you can still indicate that NIH is your employer. When you get to the bottom of the personal information section, there is a place to write in your employer. Writing in "National Institutes of Health" will help us defend our Council of Governments’ participation title!
Show up on Friday, May 16, on a bike, wearing a helmet. Only those on a bike and wearing a helmet will qualify for food and the prize raffle. Remember, Bike to Work Day is a rain or shine event.
We’ll see you there!
